Aron’s Gloves

Jessie received a phone call from her nine-year-old son, Aron in the office..

Aron: “Mom, I need a baseball glove for Little League. Can I get that? And when?”

Jessie: “My boy, you will get a baseball glove in next month, I promise.”

Aron: “Why? I need it next week, I joined in the Little League and we are going to practice baseball from next Monday, I can’t join the them without a baseball.”

Jessie: “.....”

Jessie, a single mother, do want to buy a baseball for her lovely son, but her money was so tight that her first check would have to go for paying bills. Perhaps she could buy his baseball glove with her second or third check.

Fortunately, the manager listened her conversation occasionally and she buy a baseball for the poor mother and her lovely boy.

When Jessie arrived for work the next morning, Portia, the manager, asked her to come to her office. Jessie wondered if she had done something wrong of left some part of her job incomplete from the day before. She was concerned and confused.

Portia handed her a box. “I overhead you talking to your son yesterday,” she said, “ans I know that it is hard to explain things to kids. This is a baseball glove for Aron because he may not understand how important he is, even though you have to pay bills before you can buy gloves. You know we can’t pay good people like you as much as we would like to; but we do care, and I want you to know you are important to us.”

Thanks to Portia, Aron got his gloves. And Jessie was deeply touched so the decided to stay in the company as long as she can. And she did.

We can’t draw a conclusion that Jessie stay in this company just because of the baseball glove. But what the glove shows is the manager, even the company do care their employees. They treat their employees as important friends, which is very touching for the employees.

People remember other’s thoughtfulness, empathy and love than how much money they will get. The suggestion is if you do care your friends, why not sent them some gifts after you observe and find out what they need in they life? A dress or shoes, even accessories will be fine.
